The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has reported multiple floods as heavy rain blankets the Pacific Northwest.
PORTLAND, Ore. — A pair of atmospheric rivers targeting the Pacific Northwest is causing some major flooding in multiple rivers in northern Oregon and southern Washington.
Total rainfall amounts in lower elevations across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington could see four to seven inches. Higher terrain in the Cascades and the North Oregon Coast Range could see double those amounts.
Multiple rivers are flooding in Oregon and Washington, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Most of the region is under Flood Warning or Watch.
People who live near flood-prone roadways should be aware of the dangers that even just a few inches of water on the roadway can cause. It only takes six inches of fast-moving water to sweep an adult off their feet, and only a foot of water to carry away most cars, according to National Weather Service.
